HIS WORSHIP THE ACTING MAYOR OF AMAJUBA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, CLLR T.E. MTHEMBU DISTRIBUTES 150 PAIRS OF SCHOOL SHOES AND CELEBRATES ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AT UMUZOKHANYAYO SECONDARY SCHOOL IN DANNHAUSER MUNICIPALITY
The Honourable Acting Mayor of Amajuba District Municipality, Councillor T.E. Mthembu, accompanied by Honourable Councillors, the Acting Municipal Manager, Mr T Dube and Senior Municipal Officials, today, 17 January 2025 ,visited uMuzokhanyayo Secondary School,
under Dannhauser Local Municipality to celebrate its outstanding academic achievements and uplift Learners through targeted support.
As part of the visit, 150 pairs of school shoes were distributed to underprivileged Learners, providing them with the essential support needed to begin the 2025 academic year with dignity and renewed focus. This initiative underscores the IFP led Amajuba District Municipalities commitment of addressing lthe socio-economic challenges faced by Learners in rural C.ommunities.
UMuzokhanyayo Secondary School, despite being located in a rural area and contending with significant infrastructure challenges, continues to excel academically. The school achieved a perfect 100% pass rate in the 2024 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations. This achievement extends its impressive track record of maintaining pass rates above 90% for the past five years, firmly establishing it as a beacon of educational excellence in the Amajuba District.
To further motivate Learners and acknowledge exceptional performance, Acting Mayor Cllr Mthembu announced the donation of two laptops to the top-performing Grade 12 Learners who attained aggregates above 80% in their 2024 results.
During his address, the Acting Mayor Mthembu, acknowledged the infrastructure challenges faced by the school and pledged to escalate these issues to the relevant government departments through Operation Sukuma Sakhe and the District Development Model (DDM) structures. He reassured the school Community of the district’s commitment to advocating for necessary interventions to improve the learning environment.
The school Principal, Mr. Zwane, graciously received the school shoes on behalf of the Learners, offering sincere thanks for the municipality’s consistent and unwavering support. He emphasized how such initiatives not only alleviate some of the burdens faced by Learners, enabling them to focus more on their studies, but also help create an environment that fosters academic success.
The day concluded with a profound sense of pride and renewed resolve, as Learners, Educators, and Officials united in their commitment to preserving and building upon the school’s legacy of excellence. The visit stood as a testament to visionary leadership that not only celebrates past successes but actively paves the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
