Amajuba District Municipality remains resolute in fulfilling its core mandate of providing safe, reliable, and sustainable water supply to all its Communities of Dannhauser and eMadlangeni Municipalities. 02 January 2025, marked another significant milestone in the Municipality’s ongoing commitment to improving water access and addressing long-standing challenges with innovative, Community-centered solutions.
Building on the momentum of accelerated service delivery, His Worship the Acting Mayor, Councillor T. Mthembu, together with the Acting Municipal Manager, Mr. T. Dube, has demonstrated hands-on leadership and a relentless drive to bring water to every household.
True to the promise made to the Community of Eastbourne Farm in Dannhauser Ward 10 on 30 December 2024, the Acting Mayor, Cllr T Mthembu led a Team of Engineers and Plumbers on 02 January 2025 to complete vital pipe work. By connecting the newly installed water infrastructure to the existing water system, this project should ensure that Residents can access water directly from their taps. This intervention eliminates reliance on water trucks temporary relief and marks a transformative step toward sustainable water delivery for the area. This will be done in all areas of Dannhauser and eMadlangeni Municipalities that require this intervention as the Municipality is committed to ensuring that existing taps have water supply and reliance on water trucks temporary relief is reduced.
Matching the drive for results, the Acting Municipal Manager, Mr T Dube is equally committed to finding immediate and long-term reliable water supply solutions, he played a pivotal role in inspecting urgent repairs in the eMadlangeni Municipality Ward 5 Ezimbuthu KV area. Water supply disruptions caused by leaking manholes were swiftly addressed under his guidance, showcasing the Municipality’s hands-on approach to resolving water critical issues and provision of maintenance.
In Vaalbank Ward 3 of eMadlangeni Municipality, the resuscitation of boreholes, and alternative water sources are being explored to reduce water shortages. This work aligns with the Municipality’s broader strategy to address the complexities of water delivery while ensuring long-term sustainability.
Recognizing that effective service delivery requires more than technical interventions, the Municipality has adopted a holistic approach to water management. This includes restructuring temporary relief water tanker schedules to align with the specific demands of each Community, ensuring equitable access to this essential resource. Efforts to strengthen water forums have also been prioritized, fostering collaboration with Amakhosi eSilo, Izinduna, local Honourable Councillors, local Committees and other relevant Stakeholders to improve communication, address challenges proactively, and empower Residents as water users to take an active role in managing water resources. Additionally, the Municipality is engaging directly with Communities to safeguard infrastructure from vandalism, prevent system disruptions, and develop localized solutions that enhance water supply reliability.
While the Municipality acknowledges existing obstacles—such as ageing infrastructure, insufficient boreholes, incidents of vandalism and shortage of water facing the Country not only the Amajuba District —it is committed to addressing these challenges head-on. Through a blend of immediate interventions, strategic planning, and Community involvement, Amajuba District Municipality is proving itself as a leader in innovative and sustainable water and sanitation service delivery.
