FIRE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN IS ROLLED OUT BY THE AMAJUBA MUNICIPALITY DISASTER MANAGEMENT UNIT
The Amajuba District Municipality, through its Disaster Management Unit recently commenced with the annual Fire Awareness Campaign.
The awareness programme held yesterday, 24 May 2023 at Slagveld Hall at Emadlangeni Municipality forms part of the municipality’s priority efforts that focus on the improvement of community awareness and education levels in occurrences of emergencies and disasters, in particular to minimize the devastating fire incidents within the district.
The campaign slogan, ‘Be Disaster Informed’ is designed to better educate and create a cohesive and resilient community in the face of fire and natural hazards. The disaster unit of well-trained will see officials travel throughout Amajuba district imparting education to residents and are currently at Dannhauser Local Municipality Koppie Allen Hall.
The campaign's overall objective is to address and reduce the occurrence and negative impact from disasters linked to fire and flooding that may result in human casualties, property loss, and the displacement of people.
Basic firefighting equipment such knapsacks and fire beaters have been provided to locals in ward 9 as a component of the campaign, which is being implemented in complete cooperation with Provincial Disaster Management Centres (PDMC).
Several sector departments, including the Department of Transportation, the Department of Rural and Land Reform, the Working on Fire Department, and SASSA, have joined the awareness campaign.
The fire awareness campaign is scheduled to conclude on 26 May 2023 at Amajuba forest under the Newcastle Municipality
