In recognition of the outstanding results in the 2023 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations, the district schools scooped a host of accolades at the Amajuba District Schools Excellence Awards.


The esteemed awards held in partnership with the Department of Education aimed to promote academic excellence with a focus on the calibre of NSC examination results, particularly in the no-fee schools in the region’s rural areas.The occasion of the recognition of the collective effort of learners, teachers and school stakeholders in providing quality education is noteworthy because it reflects the municipality’s leadership’s devotion to the notion of “Education for Liberation,” which guarantees that academic opportunities will always be given top priority in order to support the growth and development of our district.


Addressing the honourees, and the Department of Education officials led by MEC Mbali Fraser, His Worship, the Mayor, Cllr. uMntwana Ndabuko Zulu began his contribution by remembering the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who was a staunch advocate of quality education. While the Honourable Mayor applauded the district for its continued efforts to paving way for educational success, he also shone a spotlight on the abusive behaviours of students towards teachers. uMntwana Ndabuko made a clarion call to all parties involved in education to support and advocate for the safety of educators, as he regarded the issue of abusive students as one that is a societal matter.


With 316 trophies and certificates awarded to schools across the district, a notable Mayoral Special Award was earned by Ngcaka Combined School in eMadlangeni for consistently attaining a 100% pass record for the past ten years. The Amajuba District Municipality also donated R10,000 to the crowned school, and was further designated as one of the schools the municipality will offer resource assistance to. A special thanks to Old Mutual, MTN and The Nyathee Foundation as the sponsors of the Amajuba District Schools Excellence Awards 2023 which took place today, 22 February 2023 at Ferrum High School.

Once again, the Amajuba District Municipality congratulates the Grade 12 class of 2023 for their outstanding pass rate of 87.0%.
