COUNCILLORS' OVERSIGHT: TACKLING REVENUE AND DEBT MANAGEMENT

March 12, 2026 Amajuba District Municipality

His Worship, the Acting Mayor of Amajuba District Municipality, Cllr Thembelihle Mthembu, together with the Municipality’s Speaker, Honourable S.O Zulu, are currently in Boksburg attending the Oversight Role of Councillors in Revenue and Debt Management Conference 2026 at the Birchwood Hotel.

The two-day conference brings together political leadership and governance experts to strengthen the oversight responsibilities of councillors in areas of revenue enhancement, credit control, debt management, and financial sustainability. For Amajuba District Municipality, this engagement is both strategic and timely. Effective revenue collection and responsible debt management are at the heart of service delivery. When municipalities strengthen oversight and accountability in these areas, they improve their ability to maintain infrastructure, expand services, and respond to the needs of communities in a sustainable manner.

By participating in this conference, the Acting Mayor and the Speaker are reaffirming the Municipality’s commitment to sound financial governance, transparency, and prudent management of public resources. The knowledge and best practices gained will contribute to improving internal systems, enhancing compliance with legislative frameworks, and ensuring that every rand collected is used efficiently for the benefit of the people of Amajuba. This platform also allows the Municipality to benchmark its practices against other municipalities across the country, share experiences, and adopt innovative approaches to revenue optimisation and debt recovery.

Amajuba District Municipality remains committed to strengthening governance, protecting public finances, and building a financially resilient institution that delivers quality services to its residents.
