DMRE WRAPS UP TRAINING AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENT OF AMAJUBA DISTRICT

June 23, 2025 Amajuba District Municipality

Today, 3 June 2025, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) concluded the final leg of its Training and Skills Development Assessment for Amajuba District at the Dannhauser Community Hall. Led by Minister Gwede Mantashe in his capacity as District Development Model (DDM) Champion, the programme aims to assess local skills levels, identify gaps, and gather data to inform future development interventions.

Framed within the DDM’s mandate to align planning and implementation across all spheres of government, the initiative advances a more coordinated response to persistent challenges such as youth unemployment and unequal access to training. By localising engagement, it ensures development efforts are responsive to specific district-level needs. Central to the process was direct engagement with communities, particularly youth and unemployed individuals, who provided input on the types of training and support required to enhance their participation in the economy. These insights will inform tailored programmes that reflect the lived realities and aspirations of local residents.

Crucially, the assessment also sets the groundwork for collaboration with training institutions and industry partners, positioning the district to transition from consultation to delivery. It signals intent to translate community inputs into concrete opportunities that drive inclusive growth. Furthermore, the presence of Amajuba District Municipality’s Local Economic Development Unit added value to the session by linking the assessment’s findings to ongoing local economic planning efforts. The unit’s participation helps ensure that future training and development programmes are aligned with district priorities, resource planning, and emerging economic opportunities.

Lastly, the insights drawn from this assessment represent more than a data-gathering exercise but are also a strategic input into the district’s development trajectory. Aligned with the mandate of the District Development Model, these findings will enable more focused, responsive, and collaborative interventions.
